Greek banks to reopen but cash limits remain

Greek bank branches are set to reopen across the country today after a three-week shutdown - but limits on withdrawals remain.

The limit for cash withdrawals of €420 per week is still in place, although customers will be able to take out the entire amount at once instead of just €60 a day.

Motorcyclist killed in M50 crash

An investigation has been launched into a crash on Dublin's M50 last night in which a motorcyclist was killed.

It happened on the northbound side of the motorway near the Blanchardstown exit, just before 10pm.

Major drop in number of teenagers smoking since 1998

There has been a significant drop in the number of teenagers who smoke.

A report from the 'Show Me ID' campaign says nearly one in ten (7.9%) 15 to 17 year olds smoked last year, down from 1 in 5 (21%) in 1998.

The organisation trains retailers to identify young people who are not legally allowed to buy cigarettes.

Adopted people look set to get new rights under new laws that are in the pipeline.

The cabinet is going to discuss a new bill this week which would give as many as 50,000 people the right to their birth certificate for the first time.

Irish rail passenger numbers up 650,000 in first half of year

Irish Rail has recorded an increase of over half a million passengers in the first six months of this year.

The train company says 650,000 extra people used its services between January and June.
