Withdrawals at ATMs have been capped to a maximum of €60

European leaders are expected to begin efforts to convince Greece to vote yes in Sunday's referendum on bailout proposals.

A decision by Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras to go to the polls was followed by Europe's announcement that their existing aid package would not be extended past tomorrow.

Greek banks and stock market are shut for the week as the crisis continues, while the public is facing €60 limits on daily ATM withdrawals.

Man shot in Limerick understood to be well-known convicted criminal

A well-known convicted criminal is in a critical condition in hospital, after he was shot in a car park on the grounds of the University of Limerick.

Christy Keane - a brother of murdered Limerick gangster Kieran Keane - was shot outside the UL Sports Arena this morning.

Mr Keane had parked his car on the UL campus and was walking to the sports arena for a gym workout when he was shot a number of times in the chest.

Two armed masked men approached him shortly before 7am and opened fire at close range.

Independent Alliance launched

Feargal Quinn becomes Parliamentary Chairman of group

The Independents Alliance has been formerly launched.

It will see TDs, Senators and Councillors contest the next general election with a view to becoming part of a coalition Government.

The group won't apply a whip to members except under votes of confidence.

Independent Senator Feargal Quinn has agreed to become the Parliamentary Chairman of the grouping - though he says he does not intend to contest either the next general election or the subsequent election to the Seanad.

Same-sex marriage likely to be delayed as challenges go to Court of Appeal

The two challenges were dismissed by the High Court earlier this month

Two legal challenges to the outcome of the marriage equality referendum are to be heard by the Court of Appeal at the end of next month.

The government had hoped to publish the legislation before the Dáil rises in July, but the legal situation means same-sex marriage is likely to be delayed.

The challenges to the referendum result are brought by Gerry Walshe - an electrician from Lisdeen Road, Co Clare - and Maurice Lyons - a gardener, with an address at Callan, Co Kilkenny.

One-third of Irish men using dating apps to find casual sex, says survey

One-third of Irish men aged between 17 to 24 use apps or dating sites to find casual sex, according to a new survey.

It also found that more than 70% of men and women claim to have had a one night stand.
