The super-food du jour is most certainly the kale. A cousin of the cabbage, it's packed with vitamins B12 through Q, and is now a common sight in soups, salads and sandwiches across the world.
And naturally, as anything gains popularity, some people, for reasons unknown, decide to name their babies after it.
Bon Appetit has done some done the spade-work and found that 260 children in the US were named 'Kale' last year. In case you were wondering, it seems to be a boy's name, with only five lucky baby girls registered.
It's doing well in the food stakes for a new contender, leaving 'Apple' (27 girls) and 'Pepper' (152 girls) in the dust. 'Olive' still leads the field with 1086 girls registered in 2013 - a testament to the enduring popularity of Popeye's girlfriend Olive Oyl perhaps?
So will it be onwards and upwards for this ascendant vegetable, or will another super-food overtake it? Will nurseries in years to come be filled with little Goji Berries and Asparaguses? We wait with baited breath.
