How do the Happy Pear start their day?

The Greystone-based twins, sometimes nicknamed ‘the Jedward of food’, are known for their advocacy of vegan diets and healthy living.

So it’s no surprise that even their weekend mornings are packed full of pursuits to boost their mental and physical wellbeing:

“I woke up around 5.15 or something and then I usually meditate for half an hour, that was my kind of thing for this year,” Dave told The Anton Savage Show

“I’m on my 30th day, or 29th day, of 30 minutes [of] meditation first thing.

“And then we’ve got a new book out in June, so I was doing the final edits of that. Then after that I went for a walk with my wife and then I went for a swim in the sea.

“And then after that I came back and I cooked pancakes for my two daughters and their two friends sleeping over.”

Famously the twins do every together, so it is not surprising that Steven had a similar morning as well:

“I was kind of similar!” Steven said.

“I got up, I was in the kitchen in the Happy Pear for a little bit, then I meditated.

“I got up at half five but I go to bed at half nine, I put the kids to bed and then kind of just fall asleep.

“I went for a swim, it’s 13 degrees, water temperature is around nine degrees. I think a swim is probably stretching it.

“It’s kind of more like a minute dip really. It’s cold now.

“It’s finally started to get cold the water temperature - but super refreshing and lovely!”

However, Steve continued:

“Certainly, the swim in the sea… you know the way you can face discomfort because there’s so many days that you don’t want to do it but it just kind of flexes that muscle. Like sometimes you just do need to kind of unwind and relax and take it easy.

“But I just think it’s really good to build that perseverance within yourself and the daily swim is great for, you know, encouraging that.”

The rest of their day is a little bit more normal:

“I’m meeting Mam after this, she wanted help cleaning stuff out for an hour and then Izzy has some party, so we have to go get presents for that,” Dave said.

“I’m building a treehouse with my son,” Steve added.

“A treehouse is a grandiose term for a shed on legs but we’ve spent kind of a number of months working on it. Today I think we’re finally going to finish it, so that’s kind of exciting.”
