Luas operator Transdev has placed all staff on protective notice, in letter was circulated to workers this evening. The union SIPTU says the move means staff can be laid off at a day's notice. It's now considering ballotting for an all out strike. Transdev says in the letter that it may make deductions from the pay of drivers and supervisors.

Talks between Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil on the formation of a minority government are continuing today. The two parties are set to get into substantive negotiations around policies after a 90 minute meeting last night that was aimed at building trust between them. After last night's meeting, the same short statement was issued by both parties saying the talks were "constructive and cordial".
AGSI conference hears of threats received by frontline gardaí 'on a daily basis'
The Garda Commissioner Noirin O'Sullivan has refused to comment on possible garda strikes at their annual conference in Co Mayo. The AGSI, which represents mid-level gardaí, agreed a motion to mount a campaign of industrial action over pay starting with a uniformed protest. If no progress is made to meet garda pay claims before June, the association says it will consider striking amid the penalty of jail.
Reality TV star and music producer David Gest has died, aged 62

Dublin Fire Brigade have issued yet another public warning about the dangers of covering mobile phones while charging. The capital's fire brigade posted images on Twitter from the scene of a fire, which started because a phone was left charging in a handbag, leading to dangerous heat levels.
