While the last weekend in October brings an extra hour in bed, the real best thing about this time of year is the eye-gougingly gorgeous images from National Geographic's Photo Contest.
Amid all the turmoil in the world right now, the American photo-magazine's crowd-sourced galleries are a beautiful reminder that there’s still a lot to marvel at in the world today.
The pictures below are not even the official winners of the competition, nor have they placed - the judges are going through the final selection process, so these are just a sampling of what photographers have submitted to the Nature, Places and People categories.
All in all, it’s scrolling through just a few of the 5000 images in consideration for the title is a fantastic way to spend that hour you just gained on a grey day in late October...
