A new Kickstarter campaign is hoping to turn dachshunds into discohunds, with a new LED dog vest that plays a light show controlled from the groovy owner’s smartphone.

Created by the New York and Tokyo-based creative lab Party NYC, the Disco Dog wraps dogs of all sizes in a coat that displays, as well as custom scrolling text in thousands of different colours.

"You can choose an animation or type in a message using our Disco Dog application on your smartphone," reads the Kickstarter.

"It's a fun way to celebrate your dog, and also keeps her visible and safe when it's dark out. If your dog runs too far away and the connection is lost, the vest will show an automatic "LOST DOG" message, asking bystanders to help the lost pup find her way back."

The campaign has already reached its funding goal, and will soon be retailing its medium-sized Disco Dog vests for $350 (€320), with the first shipment expected to be available in November. Vests for large dogs will retail at $400 (€365), while the small ones have sold out already.
