Germany has voted to pass a four-month extension to Greece's bailout programme - it passed with a comfortable majority as 542 out of 587 lawmakers voted yes.

While Greece was forced to make serious concessions to reach the deal - Angela Merkel still faced a significant rebellion as 29 backbenches from her Christian Democratic Union and its sister party, the Christian Social Union voted against the motion.

German finance minister, Wolfgang Schauble has been one of the Greek government's most vocal opponents but he called for this deal to be passed.

He warned that the Syriza-led government will have to prove over the coming months that it will stick to the commitments that it has made.

"Greece has to do its bit. Solidarity has something to do with reliability," he says.

As the vote took place, Greek finance minister Yanis Varoufakis discussed the vague nature of the deal. The IMF has criticised the Greeks for not providing enough details. Mr Varoufakis says that he was deliberately abstruse when tabling the programme:

"I use the term creative vagueness. I want to be the first minister of finance who will never refer to a number if I am not sure that I will attain it."

He also reiterated that he and his party have no desire to leave the euro zone - and that a Greek exit would be "catastrophic."
