A 14-year-old girl has died after a swimming accident in Co Louth.

A group of teenagers were swimming together at Seapoint, near Termonfeckin, on Friday afternoon.

Emergency services were called to the scene after the girl got into difficulty.

Two lifeboats and a Coast Guard helicopter were involved in the operation.

She was airlifted to Our Lady Of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda in a serious condition.

However she has since died.

Gardaí say investigations into the incident are ongoing.
