A 13-year-old killed in a car cash in Kilkenny this week has been remembered as a 'kind, gentle, and sincere young boy.'

Billy Rockett, from Kilmacow, Co. Kilkenny, was killed in the crash involving a car and a jeep on Wednesday afternoon.

He was pronounced dead at the scene, while his father Liam was taken to St Luke's General Hospital Kilkenny with serious injuries.

Two people travelling in the jeep were also taken to St Luke’s for treatment.

In a post last night, St Patrick’s National School Strangsmills paid tribute to the young boy.

'Kind, gentle and sincere'

'We learned last night of the passing of one of our beloved past pupils, Billy Rockett,' it said.

'Billy is fondly remembered as a kind, gentle and sincere young boy.

'The Rockett family were hugely involved in our school community for many, many years. Our school is devastated by the tragic and untimely passing of Billy.'

Meanwhile, members of Kilmacow Hurling and Football Club offered their thoughts and prayers to the family.

'News reached us late this evening of an accident that has seen young Billy tragically taken from them while Liam is in a serious condition in hospital,' they wrote.

'They will need all our prayers tonight and going forward, all the support we can give.'

Shamrocks GAA Club also paid tribute to the teen, alongside Waterford FC, which said: ‘This is really devastating. The Rocketts are, and always have been, tremendous Blues fans and I’d count Liam as a good friend through the club.'

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to the crash to come forward.

They are particularly interested in talking to drivers who were on the N10 in the Danesfort area between 1:30pm and 2:15pm and may have dash-cam footage.
