The Taoiseach is ruling out any re-negotiation of the Croke Park Agreement saying it is “honour bound”.
That is despite a number of members of his Cabinet lining up to suggest a re-working of the deal.
Earlier the Transport Minister Leo Varadkar said that if a new deal could be thrashed out with unions before 2014 then it should be implemented.
The Chairman of the Fine Gael party also earlier called for elements of the Croke Park deal to be renegotiated in a bid to save money.
Deputy Charlie Flanagan said all sides should sit down together to discuss the payment of increments which are not part of core pay.
While the Minister for Jobs Richard Bruton has said the government has to look ahead to a successor to the deal.
In Dublin this morning Tánaiste Eamon Gilmore said there is one Croke Park Agreement and the government is committed to it.
“There is one agreement – and we’re going to honour that agreement” he said.
“The agreement is…in writing, it’s on paper; it has 18 more months to run, or thereabouts and we’re going to honour that agreement“.
“It has delivered, and (when) the government makes an agreement it keeps it” he added.
Speaking at the start of the Fine Gael Parliamentary Party meeting in Mayo Enda Kenny backed the claim of the Tánaiste and Labour leader that the deal must stand.
