The Taoiseach has handed the new Minister for Justice a fresh batch of allegations of Garda misconduct.
Frances Fitzgerald is less than a week in office, following the resignation of Alan Shatter, and is now investigating several affidavits and other documentation.
The Tanaiste said today that Minister Fitzgerald intends to investigate these latest allegations quickly and promptly.
Eamon Gilmore also says it's important that public confidence in the Gardai is restored.
“I think these allegations are very serious and I think that the important thing is that these allegations are examined and investigated as quickly as possible. I know that that is Frances Fitzgerald’s intention, is that allegations relating to the Gardai are dealt with quickly and promptly and dealt with effectively. I think the important thing here is that public confidence in the Gardai is restored,” Gilmore said.
