The Taoiseach has launched a stinging attack on Fianna Fail saying the party could not be trusted to run the economy again. Enda Kenny accused Fianna Fail of trying to jeopardise the Irish economic recovery with its opposition to the property tax which he says is both hypocritical and opportunistic.

A spokesperson for the Fianna Fail Leader Michael Martin has expressed surprise at the outburst by the Taoiseach, saying Enda Kenny should concentrate less on Fianna Fail and more on the increasingly chaotic approach by government to the major issues affecting the country today.

The Taoiseach made the comments as the launch of the latest Action for Plan for Jobs report. He says the measures in plan are starting to have a real effect. The report says that 96% - or 144 out of 150 - of targets set out for the first 3 months of this year have been met.

The Taoiseach, Tánaiste and the Minister for Jobs have published the 5th progress report on the Action Plan.

Measures delivered include:

  • Implemented range of measures to deliver an additional 2,000 ICT graduates over the next year.
  • Published and commenced implementing the Government’s plan to deliver an additional 20,000 manufacturing jobs by 2016
  • Approved a Government investment of €200 million in 7 world-class SFI research centres
  • Implemented the 10 Point Tax Plan for the Small and Medium Enterprise Sector as announced in Budget 2013
  • A €1 million initial investment in an industry-led technology centre in Big Data sector
  • Provided support for, via the National Pensions Reserve Fund, the delivery of a range of Funds totalling €850 million aimed at providing credit for SMEs

Enda Kenny says that Irish economic progress would be put in jeopardy if Fianna Fail were to be put in charge of the economy again.
