The ‘Do Not Swim’ notice issued at Portmarnock has been lifted by Fingal County Council after the results of water sample tests showed the water quality is satisfactory.
The results were returned earlier than expected and swimming is now permitted at Velvet Strand Beach.
The notice had been issued as a precautionary measure following an overflow on Thursday at the Portmarnock Strand Pumping Station which was caused by a technical issue.
Earlier this week, council authorities reversed a swimming ban at Balbriggan, Skerries, Loughshinny and Rush beaches in north Dublin.
Advisory notices for the Claremont and Sutton beaches, where a range of restrictions had been placed on swimming, were also lifted.
On Wednesday Clare County Council imposed bathing restrictions at Kilkee beach due to bacterial contamination.
However, the council said water sampling tests carried out on Thursday indicated the water is now clean.
Recent bathing water restrictions were also lifted at two Cork beaches.
Members of the public intending to enter the water at any beach in Ireland are advised to check the water quality in advance by accessing the EPA website at or by checking the notice board at the entrance to each beach.
