Coca Cola remains Ireland’s biggest-selling brand for the eleventh year in a row, according to the annual Checkout top 100 grocery brands survey which is measured by Nielsen and based on the value of sales during the full year.
Leading Irish food and confectionary brands maintained their top-ten positions with Avonmore at second, Brennans Bread, third, and Tayto Crisps, fifth.
Confectionary, crisps and fizzy drinks dominate the top ten - Cadbury's, Lucozade, 7UP, Walkers, and Jacobs are all also present.
“I think what this year’s Top 100 Brands shows us is that with those brands that have invested and put a good plan in place, the opportunities are there to grow,” said Matt Clark, Commercial Director, Ireland, Nielsen.
The only newcomer to the top-ten list in tenth place was Wrigley's Extra gum.
The fastest-riser was Carroll Meats, which jumped an impressive 41 places to 72nd in this year’s rankings. At the bottom of the top 100 lies Kilmeaden cheese, down from 81 last year.
Nielsen measured the sale performance of over 6,500 brands from over 200 product classes in compiling the report.
Stephen Wynne-Jones, Checkout editor joined Vincent Wall on Business Breakfast to discuss the poll.
He says that communicating a point of difference, and offering value are the keys to rising up the rankings.
