Well, Pennsylvania high school student Patrick Farves certainly isn't short of confidence.
When Miss America Nina Davuluri visited his school in Central York last week for a presentation, 18-year-old Farves stood up in the middle of the crowded assembly and asked Davuluri to go to the school prom with him. He even walked up to stage and offered her a flower as his classmates cheered him on.
Unfortunately, school authorties didn't respond quite so warmly. They had actually gotten wind of the 'stunt' before the event and warned Farves against it. When he went ahead anyway, he was given a three day suspension.
The whole incident has attracted so much attention that Davuluri herself opted to comment on the situation, supporting Farves' actions. In a Facebook post, she explained, "I was flattered by the gesture although I am unfortunately unable to attend due to my travel schedule. I later learned of the disciplinary action taken and reached out to the school in hopes that they will reconsider their decision."
The situation has gained more attention than Farves ever could have expected, and he's even made national media appearances in the US to discuss the incident.
