On February 6th, Women’s Aid and Allianz invite you to come together as one and Stand Strong against domestic abuse.

How many women do you know who have experienced domestic abuse? Sadly, it’s probably more than you realise. In fact, research indicates that 1 in 4 women in Ireland have been subjected to abuse by a current or former partner.

Through their partnership, Allianz and Women’s Aid aim to raise awareness of the prevalence and harms of domestic abuse. As a leading national organisation working to stop domestic violence against women, Women's Aid work to support and empower women of all ages who are subjected to domestic abuse through their 24hr National Freephone Helpline and Instant Message Support Service, their ToolIntoYou project as well as a range of face-to-face supports and practical assistance for women in need and so much more.

As part of their collaboration, Allianz and Women's Aid are launching a new campaign called #StandStrong: calling on the people of Ireland to take a stand in solidarity with women subjected to abuse and shine a spotlight on the unacceptable prevalence of domestic abuse in Irish society, whilst also raising vital funds to help Women's Aid support victims and survivors. The campaign aims to raise €2.4 million over the next three years to help the work of Women's Aid - the equivalent of €1 for each woman in Ireland.

On February 6th, coinciding with the new bank holiday to mark St. Brigid's Day - the protector of women, Allianz and Women's Aid invite you to come together as one and #StandStrong against domestic abuse. The movement aims to help combat domestic abuse, by removing the stigma and silence surrounding it and calling for zero tolerance, whilst raising much needed funds to support the vital work of Women's Aid.

Join the #StandStrong movement:

  1. By donating to Women's Aid at StandStrong.ie. 100% of funds raised will help Women's Aid to continue t listen, believe and support women subjected to abuse - 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
  2. On the 6th of February, everyone in Ireland is invited to #StandStrong and do the Yoga Warrior Pose, to show their support and solidarity with women subjected to domestic abuse in a strong but peaceful way! Just remember to take a photo and share it online using the hashtag #StandStrong and tag your friends and family to encourage others to participate.

Your support will make a huge difference to the lives of women subjected to domestic abuse. By using the hashtag #StandStrong, you can help flood social media with Warrior Pose imagery showing women subjected to abuse that they're not alone, as well as sending a powerful message that abuse is unacceptable.

What is domestic abuse?

Domestic abuse can take many forms including physical, sexual, emotional, psychological, financial or digital abuse as well as coercive control, which is a pattern of behaviour where abusers combine some or all of these forms of abuse.

In 2020, Women’s Aid saw a dramatic 43% increase in disclosures to its National Helpline in comparison to 2019 - so we know the issue is prevalent throughout the country and has been exacerbated by Covid19.

If you are a woman experiencing domestic abuse, or you are concerned on behalf of someone else, please contact Women's Aid’s National Freephone Helpline on 1800 341 900 which operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and provides support and information to callers experiencing abuse.

You can also talk to the Helpline on the Instant Message Support Service, morning and evenings, 7 days a week on www.womensaid.ie.

If you are a man experiencing domestic abuse there are also services available. Please contact the National Male Advice Line on 1800 816 588 https://mensnetwork.ie/mal/.
