St. Patrick's Day will be seen from space this year as the Egyptian pyramids go green on March 17th.
They will join the list of iconic landmarks around the world that turn emerald for St. Patrick's Day.
Tourism Ireland has also announced that the Christ the Redeemer statue in Brazil has joined its "Global Greening" initiative, along with the Welcome sign in Las Vegas, the home ground of Bayern Munich Football Club in Germany and the Sydney Opera House in Australia.
Some €5 million worth of publicity
The initiative costs around €35,000 a year; but speaking at the launch the Tourism Minister Leo Varadkar said Tourism Ireland gets a lot of "bang for it's buck" as it generates around €5 million worth of publicity.
The Chief Executive of Tourism Ireland Niall Gibbons paid tribute to the work of Irish people around the world, who he said are responsible for the success of the initiative.
And he said that not all of the landmarks approached are keen to go green.
Some ask for money in return - and that is not an option, according to Minister Varadkar.
Niall Gibbons also said he has written to the Private Secretary of the Queen of England to ask if Buckingham Palace wants to join the ranks of those going green but he is still waiting for a reply.
