600 workers in South Dublin County Council are downing tools today in a row over pay cuts. It means Tallaght and Clondalkin civic offices - as well as seven libraries - will be closed.
Staff in water, drainage and other services will only respond to emergency call-outs.
In the event of an emergency, people are asked to contact 01-457-4907. Any issue with water supply, water quality or waste water should be reported to Irish Water on 1890-278-278.
The Council says "We sincerely apologise to our customers for the uncertainty and inconvenience this unnecessary industrial action has caused and will do everything possible to minimise the disruption".
The work stoppage involves members of the IMPACT trade union. The union says management has reduced 13 workers wages, with plans to cut the pay of 150 more.
IMPACT claims the workers would still be expected to do the same work for lower pay. Staff are also set to down tools on Thursday in a similar action.
Bernard Harbour from the IMPACT trade union outlines why workers have taken this action.
