Ian Bailey has not been contacted by French authorities following reports that he is to face criminal proceedings in connection with the death of Sophie Toscan du Plantier, his solicitor has said.
The body of the French film producer was found outside her holiday home near Schull in West Cork in December 1996.
Mr Bailey was twice arrested by gardaí and questioned about the murder but has always denied involvement.
No one has ever been charged in Ireland in connection with her death.
His solicitor, Frank Buttimer, told Newstalk: "Mr Bailey received media reports today to the effect that there is now intended to be some form of criminal proceeding against him in France for the murder of Sophie Toscan du Plantier.
"That is media information only and he is responding to that.
"His actual response is that he has been wrongly associated with the unlawful killing of Sophie Toscan du Plantier for 20 years, and this is the latest chapter in a long saga."
