Journalists who were hoping to join Edward Snowden on his reported exodus to Havana were left surprised when he didn’t show up for the Aeroloft flight.
While journalists on the flight were tweeting photographs of Snowden’s empty seat, one opportunistic Twitter comedian decided to set up a novelty profile for the unexpected star of the show:
I feel empty.

A lot of people taking a photo of me lately. Maybe I should start charging for it?

Whew, close call there. RT @andrewrevell: @SnowdensSeat You're lucky he didn't turn up. He leaks.

‘17A’ has also been commenting on the reports that the flight isn’t serving alcohol to the assembled journalists and other (likely bemused) passengers:
What does a seat have to do to get a drink around here, #Aeroflot?

Getting a lot of angry looks from journalists around me. Deadlines probably looming. Also, no booze served.

Edward Snowden's current location, meanwhile, remains unknown, with reports suggesting he has sought asylum in Ecuador to avoid US extradition. You can read more about the developing situation here.
