A union representing workers at the Roche pharmaceutical company in Co Clare wants a meeting with senior management.
The future of 240 employees is unknown after the company announced plans close the Clarecastle facility near Ennis.
Staff were informed of the company's decision yesterday evening.
The company opened its base in Clarecastle in 1974.
Another buyer is being sought before the closure in 2018, or 2019.
SIPTU represents 100 of the employees at the company.
Sector Organiser with the union, Alan O'Leary, says they want to use this time to discuss options with management:
"Our understanding is that the company has made the statement that it is to wind down, to get another buyer by 2018 or the start of 2019."
"We want to use that time as best as possible to put forward an alternative plan, if that is something that the company would consider."
Fianna Fail TD for Clare, Timmy Dooley, told Newstalk Breakfast the IDA needs to engage with Roche or find an alternative investor for the site:
"In the first instance, is there an opportunity to assist Roche in maintaining their presence there. If that is not possible, then they must begin the process of looking for a suitable investor within that sector. Obviously, that is a prolonged process."
