SIPTU members of Dublin Fire Brigade (DFB) have voted for industrial action - up to and including a strike - in a row over recruitment.
The union says at least 70 new staff are needed.
SIPTU says fire officers and the public are exposed to unacceptable levels of risk due to severe understaffing.
In a ballot of DFB SIPTU members, 96% voted for industrial action and 87% voted for strike action.
Speaking to Newstalk Lunchtime this afternoon, Dublin Fire Brigade Convener with SIPTU, Gerry Harris, says fire officers are working extremely long hours.
He started by telling Jonathan why members of the senior management team are unhappy with the current recruitment drive:
