SIPTU officials have warned that they are not ruling out strike action from Irish Water workers over changes to pay.

Talks took place today between officials from the union and representatives of Irish Water management.

Yesterday, SIPTU had said its members will not accept unilateral pay cuts or changes to terms of employment at Irish Water, following a government announcement that there would be no bonuses paid for 2013 and 2014 at the utility.

A statement from SIPTU had said the union “does not defend the bonus culture for high earners” but warned that if the bonus freeze is not reversed “employees, who typically earn between €25,000 and €45,000, stand to lose a significant portion of their earnings.”
