Gardaí are investigating whether shots were fired at a house in Dublin before a man in was killed in a hit-and-run overnight.

It happened in a housing estate in Tymon Road North in Tallaght shortly before midnight.

Investigators were called to the house following report of shots being fired.

The man in his 50s was hit by a van following a “further incident” outside the house.

He was taken to Tallaght Hospital where he was later pronounced dead. A post-mortem is now underway.

The van failed to remain at the scene and was later recovered at Tymonville Gardens.

A man in his 30s was arrested nearby and is being held at Tallaght Garda Station.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

They are particularly interested in any information about a dark coloured hatchback car that was seen leaving the area.

They are also appealing to drivers who were in the area late last night or early this morning and may have camera footage.
