A man has admitted killing a man he suspected of having an affair with his wife at an apartment in Co Louth in 2011.

Shahzad Hussain - who used to live at Woodland Avenue in Mosney, Co Meath - is already serving a sentence for stabbing his wife.

In 2012, Hussain was convicted of the murder of Muhammad Arif, but that was overturned on appeal.

On January 6th 2011, he caught his wife in Mr Arif's apartment and he stabbed them both.

Mr. Arif, a distant relative and a man he suspected of having an affair with his wife, died in hospital the following day.

During his trial, he claimed he lost control after being provoked by the infidelity.

But his lawyers successfully argued on appeal that this defence, which can reduce murder to the lesser charge of manslaughter, was not explained properly to the jurors.

A retrial was ordered, but when Mr Hussain was arraigned today, he pleaded not guilty to murder but guilty to manslaughter - a plea that was accepted by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

The 35-year-old is already in prison for the attack on his wife, and will be sentenced for killing Mr Arif in April.
