A convicted sex offender claims the amount of publicity his case attracted has left him unable to live and work where he wants.

Anthony Lyons of Griffith Avenue in Dublin was jailed for six months after attacking a woman in 2010, but the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) believes his sentence was too lenient.

In October 2010, the businessman (52) rugby tackled and groped a young woman near his home at Griffith Avenue. He was sentenced to six months behind bars and ordered to pay his victim €75,000 in compensation.

His sentence was widely criticised as being too soft and the DPP appealed it on the grounds of undue leniency.

That appeal was upheld but one of the judges became ill before a renewed sentence was handed down and the matter was reheard today.

Lawyers for the DPP claimed his sentence did not reflect the pain inflicted on his victim, while his legal team argued he has suffered in other ways.

They pointed to the adverse media attention his case attracted - and the fact he feels he can no longer live and work where he would like to.

Given the complex issues raised the court decided to reserve its judgement until the next term of sittings.
