A search operation is underway for a man seen entering the River Suir in Waterford yesterday.

It's understood it happened when the man, who is believed to be in his 30's, was seen going into the river - from the new bridge on the city bypass - shortly after 5 o'clock.

Rescue efforts recommenced after 8 o'clock this morning.

Gardai in Waterford are appealing to anyone who was travelling on the bypass or bridge yesterday evening and who saw anything to contact them.
