A primary school in the United States has suspended a six-year-old child for using an imaginary bow and arrow.
The boy was playing a game of ‘Power Rangers’ in the school yard of Our Lady of Lourdes school, Cincinnati, when he imitated the action of shooting someone with a bow and arrow.
A teacher spotted the action and then brought the child to the principal’s office. The boy’s parents say the principal then sent a letter informing them their son would be suspended as the school has a zero tolerance policy.
“I have no tolerance for any real, pretend or imitated violence. The punishment is an out of school suspension,” the letter said.
“My son has never had a discipline problem,” the child’s father, Matthew, told ABC News.
“The punishment is so severe in this, it’s hard as a parent to try and make this a teachable moment for our kid so we can move forward in a healthy manner.
“I would imagine a three day suspension would be an act of physical violence, a threat of real physical violence, not imagined,” he told NBC.
The school did not comment on the story.
