Donald Trump on Monday celebrated the Gaza ceasefire deal with a whistle-stop Middle East tour in Israel and Egypt.

Flanked by world leaders, he celebrated his role in securing the peace deal - but how critical was Trump in securing this ceasefire deal?

Anthony Scaramucci of The Rest is Politics US spoke to The Pat Kenny Show on Wednesday to discuss the role the US President played in securing a peace deal in the Middle East.

Scaramucci on President Trump

“There is always a mixed bag with him.

“I think it would be unfair and too subjective not to give him credit for his influence on getting those hostages back and at least attempting peace in the Middle East.

“Peace would be very rough from here, by the way, I think we have to be realistic about it."

Mr Scaramucci explained that although President Trump may have been motivated by the Nobel Peace Prize to secure peace in Gaza, it also would have served him a purpose back on American soil.

“People perhaps don't understand this about him; the Nobel Peace Prize is a totem of the American cultural war.

“[Trump] is fighting a cultural war with the hard left and so his supposition is that you can’t get the Nobel Peace Prize unless you are way left of centre.

“Of course, Barack Obama got the Peace Prize in the first couple of months into his presidency, and so Trump likes to position that this was subjective and political favouritism."

Mr Scaramucci credited President Trump on the various pressures he applied to both sides of the war in Gaza, a move that former US President Joe Biden “simply wasn’t willing to do.”

"[Trump] went to the UAE [United Arab Emirates], he went to Saudi [Arabia] and he basically pushed them and the Qataris to back off Hamas.

“He basically disconnected Hamas from some of their financial sourcing and their political backing in the region, and then he went to Netanyahu and applied that pressure.

“It is sort of the same peace plan that was discussed eight or nine months ago, but they [Biden administration] couldn’t flex on Netanyahu the way Trump could”
