We have all been told that true beauty lies on the inside, but in a social media driven world, looks always seem to take the forefront.

However, new dating app Willow is aiming to break down these superficial barriers by putting personality before looks.

The app which has been hailed as the 'anti-Tinder', encourages people to swap banter and answer questions about each other before sharing pictures of themselves.

Rather than scrolling through a load of profile pictures, new users are presented with questions posed by other users and asked to message them with a reply in the hope that some great chemistry and conversation will follow.

This is all occurs before you have any idea about what your potential match might look like, so it's like a new and improved 'online blind dating'.

Willow was developed by 23-year-old Michael Bruch who told the Metro, "What I realised was missing from a dating app, or an app that is meant to be social, was an actual conversational aspect. I wanted to create an app that got people talking."

"Talk first – reveal photos later" is the mantra behind his concept so that users could get to know people rather than pictures.
