A Status Yellow rainfall warning is due to remain in place for Carlow, Kilkenny, Wexford, Wicklow and Waterford until 3pm this afternoon.
Met Éireann said further spells of heavy rain are expected in the area with a continued risk of thundery downpours and flooding.
TODAY
Cloudy and damp this morning with scattered outbreaks of rain and drizzle and mist patches.
Drier and brighter weather will develop across the western half of the country during the day but it will remain mostly cloudy for eastern counties with patchy rain.
Maximum temperatures of 7C to 10C in moderate north or northeast breezes.
TONIGHT
Winds will fall light overnight with mist and fog forming widely across the country.
A patchy frost will develop with minimum temperatures ranging from 1C to 4C.
