Today

Saturday will be a cold day. Frost, ice and fog will be slow to clear in places, with ice on untreated roads and paths lingering in the midlands and east possibly until lunchtime. There will be some hazy sunshine over eastern and southeastern areas where it will stay dry for the day. But rather cloudy elsewhere with a few passing light showers in western and northern coastal counties.

Afternoon temperatures of only 3 to 5 degrees in most areas, but 6 to 8 degrees in the southwest. Winds will be light variable during the morning becoming light to moderate southwesterly in the afternoon.

Tonight

Tonight will be mainly dry with light winds and fog developing, becoming dense in places. Lowest temperatures of plus 2 to minus 1 degrees over Leinster, Ulster and Connacht with some icy patches forming but cloud and fog could prevent widespread ice on the roads.

In Munster temperatures will fall no lower than 3 to 6 degrees early in the night and will gradually rise from midnight onwards as southerly winds freshen.
