Bernie Sanders has scored another victory in the race to be the Democratic Party’s representative in this year’s US presidential election.

He has gained a fresh burst of momentum after the caucuses in Nevada, with early results showing him having secured more than 45% of the vote.

Former vice president Joe Biden is heading for a second-place finish there, with just under 20%.

There's been a surge in new coronavirus infections in Italy, Iran and South Korea.

The Italian prime minister has put several northern towns on lockdown after two deaths in the region, while three top-flight football matches have been called off.

Meanwhile, two Irish citizens are among 32 people put into quarantine at a hospital near Liverpool after being evacuated from a cruise ship in Japan.

A man in his 30s has died following a crash in Co Clare overnight.

It happened when the car he was driving left the road and hit a wall Roo East between Ardnacrusha and Broadford.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
