Sabina Higgins today called for the eradication of gender violence.

It comes ahead of International Women's Day, which takes place tomorrow.

Mrs Higgins says it is only through successfully ridding the world of violence against women can we have the kind of humanity that we all want.

She made the call at the National Women's Council Soapbox event in Dublin City Centre this afternoon:

The vent, which took place in front of the Cental Bank, also featured discussions on abortion, cuts to single parents and Magdelene laundries.
