Ryanair has announced that it carried 10.1m passengers in July, an 11 percent increase on the same month last year, it was the first time according to Ryanair, that any airline has carried more than 10m passengers in any one month.

The airline’s load factor rose to 95 percent, which means that, on average, only five of every hundred available seats on all flights remained unused.

Reflecting on the results, Ryanair's chief marketing officer Kenny Jacobs couldn't resist having a small dig at Ireland's other airline: "For example we carried more customers in one month (10.14 million in July) than Aer Lingus carried in a whole year (9.77 million in 2014)."

The airline released its full-year results in May and reported a 12 percent revenue jump to €5.65bn during the 12 months, and a 66 percent rise in profits after tax to €867m.

Last month the company agreed to accept IAG’s offer for its 29.8 percent stake in Aer Lingus.
