Following up her big-screen turns in The Expendables 3Furious 7 and Entourage, the hard-as-nails cage-fighter is going to take on the lead role in the upcoming remake of the 1989 cult-classic.

The original featured Patrick Swayze as a tough-but-fair bouncer hired to work at an incredibly rough bar and tame it's clientele, using a mix of southern charm and martial arts. The remake's gender swap for the lead role is taking it's cue from next year's all-female Ghostbusters reboot.

Rousey is currently the UFC Bantamweight Champion, remaining undefeated in mixed martial arts. while her pro-feminist speeches have earned her countless celebrity fans around the world, including Beyonce, who recently played a clip of her interview during a live performance. You can watch that video here, but it does contain some NSFW language.

Her detour into Hollywood is following in the footsteps of former MMA champion Gina Carano, who appeared in Fast & Furious 6, and both actresses have appeared with Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson in the series, another athlete-turned-actor.

Johnson himself is no stranger to remakes, as he is set to star in the remake of the 1986 cult-classic Big Trouble In Little China, with The Rock occupying the lead role once played by Kurt Russell.

Meanwhile, Road House is not the only Patrick Swayze movie getting the remake treatment. The 1991 action classic Point Break, in which Swayze played a bank-robber on the run from the police, is getting the second cinematic go-around in cinemas, with Edgar Ramirez as the extreme-criminal this time around. It will hit Irish cinemas on January 8th 2016, and you can check out the trailer below.
