Revolut has today launched a new joint account feature for users in Europe.

Joint Accounts lets users create an extra account within the Revolut app to be jointly owned by two people – whether they are partners, family members or friends.

The company said the feature is “all about flexibility and inclusion” – noting that users do not have to explain why they want a joint account or prove they live together to open one.

It means the accounts can be used by any kind of couple – from partners to siblings, roommates and friends.

Revolut said a recent survey it carried out showed that six-in-ten Europeans were interested in using a joint account to manage expenses with their partner.

One-third of those wanted to use it exclusively as their only account while 26% wanted it to complement their own private account.

The remaining third wanted to keep their accounts and budgets separate – with one-in-20 warning that they don’t ever want to mix finance with love.

When asked how they plan to split costs with their partner, the most popular answer (36%) was 50/50, although one-in-five said on person in the duo would pay more depending on their income.

The new account is part of the app’s latest update which also includes a new group chat feature.

It comes after Revolut confirmed that it had issued Irish IBANs to its more than two million customers in Ireland.

The company also aims to break into the car insurance market in Ireland – claiming it can offer premiums 30% cheaper than other firms.
