As students receive college offers this morning a new survey has shown they may find it difficult to find rental accommodation.

The survey from was compiled by www.daft.ie.

It shows average rents in Dublin have risen by 2%in the last year.

Meanwhile in Cork they are up 1.7% and in Galway prices are also marginally higher.

However the nationwide figures show a fall of 0.5% in the last 12 months.

Between April and June the average advertised rent countrywide was €809 per month.

This compared to €814 during the same period in 2011.

Outside the cities rents are down year-on-year by up to 3.5%.
