The judges in Gerry ‘The Monk’ Hutch’s murder trial have watched footage of armed men, some of whom were dressed as gardaí, moving around the Regency Hotel.

They also heard evidence today from several photographers who were at the boxing event where David Byrne was shot dead in February 2016.

Press photographer Colin O’Riordain and reporter Robin Schiller were dispatched to cover the boxing weigh-in at the hotel on February 5th, 2016.

In his evidence, Mr O’Riordain told the judges that Mr Schiller told him he had seen Daniel Kinahan at the event.

On their way out, he described hearing a bang.

He said he then saw two individuals dressed as gardaí in paramilitary gear with AK-47 firearms.

He said he remembered thinking that gardaí don’t use AK-47s and he also thought it was “bogus” when he noticed they were wearing trainers.

Outside the hotel, another press photographer, Ernie Leslie, said he noticed a silver van.

As he approached it, he said a hand came out the window holding a long-barrelled weapon.

He said he grabbed his camera and as he saw someone running towards him, he instinctively took pictures, shooting seven or eight frames.

The picture was of two armed men, one of whom was dressed as a woman while the other was wearing a flat cap.
