The Education Minister says he does not share the view that the Social Protection Minister would be a more popular leader of the Labour Party.

The comments from Ruairi Quinn come after Tánaiste Eamon Gilmore said there would be no issue over his leadership, despite Labour's decimation at the ballot boxes on Friday.

And the deputy leader of the party has refused to endorse Mr. Gilmore's leadership this weekend.

Labour is facing a wipeout in the European elections, and will not secure any of the 11 seats in Ireland.

The party also got a drubbing in the two by-elections, even being beaten by the Greens in Dublin-West.

The junior coalition partner also performed exceptionally badly in the local elections and faces having no representation on some local authorities and is fighting it out for final seats in some Local Electoral Areas.

Here is what Ruairi Quinn had to say to Shane Coleman on the Sunday Show on Newstalk this morning.
