A new political group called Protect Rural Ireland has held its first canvas in Portlaoise.
They are hoping to unseat a number of politicians in the next general election - the first target was Foreign Affairs and Trade Minister Charlie Flanagan.
The group is not putting forward any election candidates itself. Instead it is focusing on damaging the chances of any politician who supports the construction of wind farms or pylons.
However spokesperson Henry Fingleton rejected claims of negative campaigning:
The group says that 2020 energy targets for Ireland could be reached without turbines and pylons by converting Moneypoint station in Co Clare to sustainable biomass.
Mr Fingleton previously said that some politicians - including Alan Kelly, Alex White, Emmet Stagg, Bernard Durkan and Marcella Corcoran-Kennedy - are toxic for rural Ireland.
