It looks like householders will not face the full cost of the property tax until 2014.
The measure is now expected to be implemented in July next year.
As a result Junior Finance Minister Brian Hayes says that he expects we will only be asked to pay a half-yearly amount in 2013.
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) called on the government yesterday to impose a tax worth 0.5% of a property value.
However Minister Michael Noonan rejected the suggestion as being too high.
Brian Hayes says he agrees with this and says that whatever the final amount will be it will not be payable in full until 2014.
But he told Breakfast here on Newstalk that the final figure has not been agreed.
