Gardai are investigating after a prisoner died in a stabbing incident at Cork Prison this evening.
The 41-year-old man died following a row with another inmate, reportedly over a remote control.
The Irish Prison Service has confirmed that a serious incident occurred in Cork Prison at around 5.20 this evening.
It is understood the 41-year-old man suffered stab injuries to his chest.
No one else was injured in the incident.
Reporter in Cork, Paul Byrne, says a row over a TV remote control in the kitchen led to the fatal incident:
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene by a local doctor.
The 41-year-old's body remains in the jail this evening, and the State Pathologist has been notified. A technical examination of the scene will take place.
Gardaí in Watercourse Road in Cork City are investigating.
