Gardaí launch murder investigation after discovery of man's body in Sligo

Gardaí have launched a full murder investigation after the discovery of a man's body in Co Sligo.

A man and a woman in their 20s are still being questioned by gardaí investigating the incident.

Local musician Martin Kivlehan (59) was found dead with stab wounds.

His body was found in a house on Holborn Street at about 1pm yesterday afternoon.

The details of a preliminary post mortem examiniation are not being released for what gardaí say are operational reasons.

But it has been confirmed that Mr Kivlehan died of stab wounds and a murder investigation is underway.

A man in his late 20s and a woman in her mid 20s were arrested in the Sligo town area last night.

They are currently being held under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act at Sligo garda station.

Investigating gardaí are continuing to appeal for witnesses who may have been in the vacinity of Holborn Street between 10pm on Sunday August 2nd and 1pm on Monday August 3rd to contact the incident room at Sligo garda station 071-915-7000, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800-666-111 or any garda station. 

Reporter at Ocean FM Harry Keaney said Mr Kivlehan was a quiet, well-liked man.
