A politician who was arrested in Cork three times over the weekend has been released from Garda custody.

The man, who is in his 30s, was detained for drink related offences while attending the Indiependence Music Festival in Mitchelstown.

It is alleged that the man assaulted a Garda after being ejected from the event.

The man, who is not believed to be from Cork, has served at both local and national level, according to the Irish Independent.
