Bord Pleanala has granted approval for Galway developer Luke Comer’s plans for a major equine centre at the former Kilternan Sports Complex in Dublin.
The proposed development will include a stable building over three floors incorporating 74 luxury horseboxes, an equine pool, a gallops of up to 1.6km in length and 36 apartment units for people working and training at the centre.
It was originally developed as a sports hotel by the supermarket retailer Pat Quinn in the 1970s and has had a colourful history since.
It fell under the control of NAMA after plans by the late Hugh O’ Regan, supported by €170m in loans by the Irish Nationwide collapsed in 2009.
The Comer Group bought the 300-acred complex in the Dublin foothills near Enniskerry for €7m two years ago.
