Towards the end of World War II the Polish resistance Home Army launched an offensive to liberate Warsaw from Nazi Germany.
The rebellion was timed to coincide with the Soviet Union's Red Army arrival in the eastern suburbs of the city.
But, the Soviet advance stopped just short of Warsaw. This gave the Germans time to regroup and demolish the city.
They ultimately defeated the Polish resistance who fought valiantly for 63 days with little outside support.
With help from cinematographers and colorizers, black and white silent footage from 1944 has been restored in colour and sound, and will be released as a film called Warsaw Rising. It will be released in 2014 to coincide with the 70th anniversary of the uprising.
