WATCH: Piano in Dublin's Pearse Station to lift commuters' moods

A piano has been permanently installed at Pearse Station in Dublin.

Its purpose is to perk up commuters' moods on their journey to and from work.

The project is the brainchild of piano tuner John Murphy: "I came across similar initiatives whilst I was living in London.

"There was nothing like this in Ireland or in Dublin, so once I moved back it was my main aim to just bring something into a train station.

"Once I sourced a piano, got an artist involved - and here we are today".

Artist Sarah Edmondson painted the piano in the colours of the sea.

She explains: "It's meant to represent the coastal route that the DART takes.

"It shows a giant octopus, you have the suggestion of the cliffs, and then obviously seagulls - which I think would be definitely significantly in Dublin".
