A man has died after being hit by a car in Co Meath.

The pedestrian aged in his 40s was fatally injured when he was crossing the road at Ballymagarvey Farm in Balrath.

It happened on Tuesday morning at around 6.50am.

His body has been removed to Navan Mortuary, where a post mortem will take place.

The road is currently closed and local diversions are in place.

Forensic collision investigators have also been notified.

GardaĆ­ are appealing to any witnesses who can assist them to contact Navan garda station on 046-9036-100, the Garda Confidential Line at 1-800-666-111 or any garda station.
